Join us as we sail into one of the Pacific Northwest’s most dramatic marine environments, designed for those interested in documenting the Salish Sea through live sketching and painting. This is a shared day of exploration and creativity guided by Captain Paul’s photographic eye and experience working in dynamic outdoor environments. We’ll position the boat in carefully chosen locations with strong compositions and changing light, allowing you to work from observation in a relaxed, supportive setting.
The day blends your own artistic practice with the adventure of being on the water, exploring remote island views, enjoying lunch made with locally sourced ingredients, and sharing good company in a remarkable place.

7 Hour Sailing Times:
11:00 am - 6 pm
Our sailing adventure was a "symphony of moments" and everything harmonized perfectly. Paul’s expertise with sailing created a very calm atmosphere.
His thought and preparation that went into to our experience went beyond our expectations! We were painting scenes of Whidbey from the boat, and Paul made sure that we had the right positioning and light for each location. We saw six Orcas and amazing views!!! We were delighted with the gourmet snacks he served. Local fish and fresh picked berries were just some of the specialty items he chose for refreshments. I can’t say enough about our trip on Windy. Coronet bay
We begin our day at the Coronet Bay Park dock at 10 a.m., where we’ll gather, make a plan for the day, and share tips from past charters on how to approach plein air work on the water.

Paint deception pass
With everyone prepared, we’ll head to our first scene, Deception Pass in the morning light. Captain Paul will hold the boat steady in the current, giving you time to create a quick block-in sketch and capture a reference photo to complete your work later from this moving, dynamic setting.

Hope Island
Our next scene brings us to anchor off Hope Island, with views of Mount Baker and Saratoga Passage. This area is rich with wildlife, including blue herons and seals often seen sunbathing on the rocks.

Skagit Island Lunch
After a morning of painting from the water, we’ll bring Windy ashore at Skagit Island, where you’ll have access to restrooms and picnic benches to set up and continue painting while lunch is prepared.

Paint from land
After a lunch highlighting fresh, locally sourced ingredients we will head out on a short walk around Skagit island, exploring views from shore that we would like to sketch or paint whuile stretching our legs.

As the light lowers on the horizon, we’ll make our way through Deception Pass and out to Bowman Bay, weather and tides permitting, for views across the straits before returning to Coronet Bay to bring the day to a close.
